Emeli Ek is a drummer, percussionist and composer active in Malmö. Educated at Fridhems and Skurup folk high schools, further qualified as a rhythm teacher with a drum set profile at the Academy of Music in Malmö (2014). Has freelanced since graduating in free jazz/free improv in various constellations and also as a solo improviser. Also plays a lot of country/americana.

For Emeli, music is equal parts body and mind. She thinks creating her own music and being able to express it live is the most interesting thing about music. This is expressed in the activities of the free-form movement jazz duo Medis, where they alternate between playing concerts (for an adult audience) and children's performances. When Emeli plays solo improvisation, the movement and the body are part of the expression and the music, where the visual dimension plays as much role as the musical one. In the free jazz quintet Ormbunken, Emeli's musical ideas are given free rein with influences from psychedelia, rock and free improvisation.
