Ingrid Malmén
Vocalist & composer
Stockholm
Ingrid Malmén is a vocalist and composer, active in the jazz and improvisation genre. Her music is genre-breaking with influences from Nordic pop and show, with poignant Swedish lyrics. Malmén often arranges his music for wind and string instruments, where the voice is allowed to appear as one of the instruments. She has released three records under her own name (Efterskalv, Hjärtslag and Malmén+Stråkquartett: Sofia Session), and also appears in the bands Vad Vi Vet and Öm Kombo. She has toured in Scandinavia and played with jazz musicians such as Jonas Kullhammar and Lisa Grotherus, and her own now consists of Jon Fält (tr), Pär-Ola Landin (bass) and Alice Hernqvist (pi). Malmén also explores the voice through free improvisation, both solo and with musicians such as Eva Lindal and Isak Hedtjärn.
Ingrid Malmén has studied jazz singing and composition at KMH in Stockholm and NTNU in Trondheim. She has also studied political science and project management in culture at SU, and works as a concert producer at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. She is frequently employed at the jazz courses at the country's folk high schools, and teaches jazz singing and ensemble at Sjövik Folkhögskola. She also holds courses in vocal improvisation and songwriting.
