Birgitta Flick is a saxophonist/improviser and composer from Berlin. With an education in saxophone from the Jazz-Institut Berlin (UdK/HfM "Hanns Eisler") and in composition from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, she works internationally as a freelance musician with groups based among others. in Berlin, Stockholm and New York City. Some of these are the Birgitta Flick Quartet, the German-Swedish-Finnish band Flickstick and a duo with the pianist Carol Liebowitz in New York. She is also sought after as a sidewoman, current collaborations include with artists such as Pål Nyberg from Stockholm and Holly Schlott from Berlin. As a composer, Birgitta likes to experiment with the contact and co-creation of the notated and the improvised. She writes for her own ensembles, as well as choral music as well as instrumental and vocal works for other groups such as the youth choir at Berlin's Staatsoper, the Vocal Ensemble in Sundbyberg (dir.: Rikard Lindberg Karlsson) or the Aulus Duo from Cardiff. For many years she was artistic director of the jazz series InSpirit at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche Berlin. Birgitta Flick's artistic work is documented through an extensive discography, a current choral edition by Gehrmans Förlag in the series #svenskkörmusik and has been supported by e.g. by the City of Berlin Senate, Elsa-Neumann-Stipendium/Universität der Künste, Initiative Musik gGmbH, Musikfonds, JazzBaltica sponsor prize and the Goethe-Institut. Birgitta Flick is active in Stockholm and Berlin.
