Stockholm-based Italian bassist/composer Ilaria Capalbo is as comfortable with hard swinging lines as with improvising on the full spectrum of the instrument.

In addition to leading her own band, she is a member of Blue Note/Verve pianist Chihiro Yamanaka's European Trio, co-leader of the critically acclaimed Italian trio KÓSMOS and bassist with Fredrik Nordström's DOLORES. She has also shared the stage with Norma Winstone, Stefano di Battista, Cassie Kinoshi and SEED Ensemble, Susanna Risberg, Karin Hammar among others and performed original works at the Royal Albert Hall, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Casa del Jazz, Blue Note Milano and at prominent clubs and festivals in Italy and Europe.

Her first job as a bandleader is inspired by the story of Carthage, a city of diversity founded on the southwest coast of the Mediterranean by a legendary queen and doomed by its proximity to the raging Roman Empire. The band has Thomas Backman and Fredrik Nordström on saxophones, clarinet and flute, Andreas Hourdakis on guitar and Fredrik Rundkvist on drums.
