Linnea Jonsson

Trumpeter & Composer
Stockholm

Linnea Jonsson was born and raised in Västerås, where she started playing the trumpet as an 8-year-old. The love for improvisational music arose in the early teens in Västerås Kulturskola's Youth Big Band. In 2021, she graduated from the Academy of Music in Stockholm and today she freelances with the capital as her base. In May 2022, Linnea's debut album "Fragments of Spring" (Prophone) was released.

The musical landscape on the record is undulating and melodic, with a completely own song register that breathes Scandinavian jazz. She leads her own band Linnea Jonsson Group as well as a duo project together with pianist Niklas Bergström. In addition to that, she is also frequently seen on the Swedish big band scene and this year (2022) she received Västerås city's cultural scholarship and the Björn J:son Lindh scholarship. the Nordic melancholy as the light.

For a sound world that breathes heartfelt humility and with a tonality that makes mountain massifs flourish, this year's scholarship is awarded to the composer and trumpeter Linnea Jonsson.""Linnea Jonsson captures both moods and emotions in a brilliant way, with the support of a musical quintet" - Bo Bjelvehammar
